C2E2 Ramblings

I have returned from Chicago, safe and sound. C2E2 was a fun show! I’m still fairly new to the world of conventions but I think it went pretty well. Chicago is a great city. I was not murdered at all!

I was thrilled to finally meet many people I had never met in person before, like KC Green, Becky Dreistadt, Frank Gibson, Lucy Knisley, Jeffrey Rowland, and many many others (if I try to list them all it will take a long time and I’m afraid I’d leave someone out and hurt some feelings). I also got to finally meet Chris Hastings face-to-face after working with him for over a year, and after he made me blood-swear to stop hiding secret extreme cusses in his comic, we got along just fine! It was also my first time meeting my LaserPony teammate Emmy and great fun was had by all. Unfortunately all the places we hung out in were busy and not conducive to comic-making, so there were no live comic jams this time.

There were, however, live music jams. If you hung around the TopatoCo booth for any length of time you probably saw some dancing going on, and if you were particularly lucky you heard David Malki laying out some succulent rhymes on any topic available.

My sincere thanks go out to everyone who came over to see me this weekend. I’m still completely flattered when people say they were excited to meet me. I sold a decent chunk of the minicomics I took with me, and I’m hoping it won’t be long before someone discovers the hidden secret of “Hey Nickname!” (hint: it’s not something you can figure out with just a single copy of the book, so find a friend who also has excellent taste in comics).

Thanks again, everybody! If you couldn’t make it to Chicago, I’ll be in Charlotte for HeroesCon in June, and Maryland in September for SPX. Maybe I’ll see you there?

Hey do you remember this drawing?

It is now available as a luxurious high-quality print from TopatoCo! Just imagine how jealous you could make all your friends.
